Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR
CHAIRMAN/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Leads strategic direction and long-term growth
Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, where he provides strategic direction and leads the airline’s vision of delivering safe, reliable, and customer-focused air travel across Nigeria. An accomplished entrepreneur and respected academic, he holds a PhD in Political Science and advanced degrees in Economics from leading international institutions in Moscow, graduating with distinction.
With decades of experience spanning business leadership, investment, and enterprise development, he has built and led multiple successful ventures across sectors, including aviation, engineering, hospitality, and security services. Under his leadership, United Nigeria Airlines continues to expand its route network, strengthen operational performance, and enhance passenger experience, positioning the airline as a trusted player in the Nigerian aviation industry.
Professor Okonkwo is also widely recognised for his contributions to economic thought leadership, philanthropy, and youth development, with numerous national and international honours; including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), reflecting his impact on business and society.
Mazi Ositadinma Okonkwo
With over 30 years of experience in executive management, finance, real estate development, and project management across Nigeria and Africa, he brings deep expertise in organisational leadership and operational efficiency.
He holds an MBA in Finance from the United States International University and a degree in Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Linus Awute, mni
A highly experienced public sector leader, he previously served as Permanent Secretary across several key Federal Ministries in Nigeria, including Trade and Investment, Defence, Interior, and Health.
Recognised for his role in strengthening public sector administration, he played a key part in Nigeria’s response to the Ebola outbreak and has received multiple national honours.
Adedayo Olawuyi
Prior to joining United Nigeria Airlines, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at Uganda Airlines, where he played a key role in launching routes to Lagos, Abuja, Mumbai, Lusaka, Harare, and London Gatwick. He holds a Master’s degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University, UK, and a degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Mrs. Morounke Babalola
With over 25 years of experience in aviation customer service, she has held key roles in cabin operations with airlines such as Bellview Airways and First Nation Airways.
She holds a degree in Sociology and brings a deep understanding of customer experience and team leadership to every flight.
